10 BEGINNER FRIENDLY MANDALA IDEAS TO TRY DURING THIS SUMMER BREAK (Part 6/10)
3D Paper Quilling Mandala
Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Prepare Your Workspace and Base
Lay out all your materials on a clean surface. Choose a sturdy cardstock or thick paper as the base for your mandala.
2. Sketch or Print a Mandala Outline
Draw a simple mandala pattern lightly with pencil or print one out to use as a guide. This helps you place your quilled shapes symmetrically.
3. Roll Quilling Strips into Basic Shapes
Use the quilling tool to roll paper strips into coils. Pinch or shape coils into teardrops, marquises, or other shapes as needed. Experiment with different shapes to add variety.
4. Glue Quilling Shapes onto the Mandala Base
Starting from the center, carefully glue each quilled shape onto the mandala outline, following your pattern. Use tweezers if needed for precision.
5. Build Layers for a 3D Effect
Add more quilled shapes on top of earlier layers, stacking and overlapping to create depth. Play with size and shape to add texture.
6. Let the Mandala Dry Completely
Allow your glued mandala to dry for several hours or overnight to ensure everything is firmly set.
7. Final Touches and Display
Once dry, gently remove any visible pencil marks. Frame your 3D mandala or use it as unique wall art or a gift.
