Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

* A transparent acrylic disc (you can also use clear plastic lids)

* Glass or acrylic paints / permanent markers (Sharpies work well too)

* Mandala stencil (optional) or compass + pencil for sketching

* Cotton swabs or fine-tip brushes

* A suction hook.

Step 2: Clean and Prep the Surface

Wipe pthe lastic disc or the acrylic sheet clean with a soft cloth.

Step 3: Sketch or Trace Your Mandala

Use a light pencil or marker to outline a mandala design. You can freehand, use a stencil, or print a design and tape it underneath a transparent disc as a guide.

Step 4: Fill in the Design with Colour

Use your markers or glass paints to carefully colour in the mandala. Work from the centre outward, choosing colours that catch sunlight beautifully — yellows, teals, pinks, purples, etc.

Step 5: Add Fine Details

Once the main colours dry, use a black or white marker to outline segments or add dot accents. This will make the colours pop and give a stained-glass effect.

Step 6: Let It Dry Completely

Allow the sun-catcher to dry flat for several hours, especially if you're using paint. This prevents smudging or dripping.

Step 7: Attach Hanging String

Thread a piece of yarn, twine, or fishing line and punch a hole in your sheet using a sharp object. Tie a loop at the top.

Step 8: Hang in Sunlight

Use a suction hook to stick it to a sunny window — and watch your mandala glow every time light hits it.

Final Thoughts

Glass mandala sun-catchers are cheerful, customizable, and incredibly satisfying to make. Try using metallic markers, adding rhinestones, or layering translucent shades for added magic.
